About SocioLocal
SocioLocal is building the operating system for local retail marketing. We enable enterprise retailers to orchestrate, optimise and measure thousands of locally relevant digital campaigns from a single platform, combining the control required by head office with the authenticity of local engagement. By connecting brands, stores, suppliers and communities, SocioLocal helps retailers grow customer engagement, drive store performance and unlock the next generation of Retail Media revenue.
Role overview
We have developed a wonderful dataset from our customers and wanted to unlock the value in the data. We’re hiring a pragmatic, hands-on Data Scientist to lead the analytical vision for SocioConnect. You’ll work with a growing, multi-dimensional data set (~500GB of social metrics and business information), turn that data into predictive models and actionable recommendations, and partner closely with engineering to productionise models and embed analytics into the product. This role is both strategic (defining analytics direction and workflows) and tactical (building models, advising engineers, and delivering clear user-facing intelligence).
What You'll Do
- Dive into our medium-to-large, growing, multi-dimensional MongoDB Atlas database (~500 GB) of social media metrics and business information, uncovering trends and opportunities.
- Identify patterns and correlations across content performance, audience behavior, and business outcomes.
- Build predictive models and actionable recommendations that directly inform content and business strategy, combining classical ML with modern LLM-based techniques (embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, fine-tuning, prompt-based extraction and classification) — including turning unstructured content like post text, images, and comments into structured signal for models.
- Extend our use of contextual external data sources and evaluate new sources to strengthen predictions.
- Monitor data as a normal part of exploratory analysis: flag anomalies, inconsistent metric definitions, or implausible distributions to the data engineering team.
- Partner with engineering to define what well-structured, model-ready data should look like. You inform requirements; a data engineering function owns pipeline reliability, ingestion, and storage delivery.
- Lead the analytical vision for the platform, designing workflows that turn complex, multi-dimensional data into clear, actionable intelligence for users.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a data scientist working with medium-to-large, growing, multi-dimensional datasets.
- Strong proficiency in Python or similar languages, including building models and guiding them to production.
- Deep understanding of machine learning, statistics, and predictive modeling.
- Practical experience applying LLMs/generative AI within data science workflows — embeddings, RAG, fine-tuning, prompt-based labeling and structured extraction from unstructured text — as a data science tool, not just for generation.
- Strong exploratory-data-analysis instincts, comfortable spotting data quality issues.
- Experience integrating external or contextual data to strengthen predictions.
- Working knowledge of NoSQL.
- Ability to collaborate closely with engineers, translating analytical needs into clear requirements rather than building pipeline infrastructure yourself.
- Track record of turning complex data into clear, actionable insights for decision-makers or end users.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
